The film starred Blake Lively, America Ferrera, Amber Tramblyn, Alexix Bledel and Bradley Whitford. The shooting of the film was partially done in the Ashcroft and Kamloops area in the British Columbia in Canada (Ebert). The film is about four teenage girls who are lifelong friends. They were upset about the fact they have to spend their summers apart from each other. They decide to travel apart but keep a common pant which each one of them will carry for two weeks and pass it on. The film in brief: Summary There were four teenage girls named Tibby, Lena, Carmen and Bridget who has to be apart from each other for the first time this summer. Tibby will be staying at her home, Lena will be with her grandparents in Greece, Carmen will be in South Carolina with her father and Bridget will be in Mexico in a soccer camp. They went to shop on the last day that they were together and Carmen buy an ordinary pair of jeans that fit all the friends perfectly even they have different bodies. They decide to journey to their destination and each will keep the pants for two weeks and pass the pant on to the next friend (Bledel et al.). Carmen was mad at her father when he decided to marry another women and she found herself a misfit in the family. She was upset for her fathers neglect and returns to Maryland and then argues with her father and decides to visit him on his wedding day and apologises and her father also makes a public apology to her. Lena meets a boy named Kostas Dounas and develops s liking for him but fears that she might fall in love as she is afraid of love. Moreover both their families are enemies for a very a very long time due to old family feud. Inspite of this entire problem they keep in touch and the boy confesses his love for her. Lenas family barges into the matter but she asks her grandfather to go and meet Kostas which he does and Lena confesses her love for him in the end (Brashares). Tibby was in a job in a department when she meets Bailey who faints there. After sometime they become friends and Bailey makes herself the assistant of Tibby. Bailey suffers from Leukemia and eventually goes to the hospital for her bad health. The magical pant was wrongly delivered to her by Lena, and Bailey thinks that for those pants she was able to meet Tibby and became good friends. Eventually Bailey dies and Tibby undergoes a dramatic change in her perspective of outlook (Ebert). Bridget in the soccer camp develops a crush for one of the coach. One night she sneaks into his cabin and tries to persuade him into being physical. Eric pulls away from Bridget when she touches her. She was determined that she wanted to make this work and eventually engages into an intimate encounter with Eric. Later she feels broken down and her friends arrive and comfort her as also Eric Review The film is based on friendship and early adulthood. The film is a heart warming tale friendship which is very well depicted in the film by the young actors. The actors very beautifully portrayed by all the actors. They seemed to have got well with the characters that they played (Rottentomatoes.com). The story though has many loopholes. The magical element of the pants is the main driving force of all the incidents that takes place in the movie. The rule of the pants that they wear is that the pants cannot be taken out by anyone except the girls. Here the situation was such that it could trigger a teenage comedy of widespread badness. But the movie is sweet and touching at some point and the pant accompanies the girls in their journey and the steps that they take into their adulthood. The director of the film has tried to give a message of friendship and responsibility that all the people at their age that is in teen age; must take. They should learn to take the responsibilities of their life and tackle the harsh situation that they face in the journey of their life. The girls in the movie has depicted a picture that most boys and the girls of their age faces but the pants are only a mean to handle their problem which otherwise could have been solved by them. They thought that the pants helped them; but it is they themselves that solved the problem. The film also depicts the relation of the girls with their family and the bondings that they have (NYMag.com). Conclusion It can be said that the makers of the film were successful in giving the message of friendship and the hardships of life during the early adulthood and how the friends help one another in overcoming the problems (Sparknotes.com). Though the film received some critical acclaim but the fact that it is a film and meant for the entertainment of the people should be kept in mind. The film was successful in its purpose of entertaining the people through its fresh feel and bold acting from the actors. References Bledel, Alexis et al.
